Why did i get high cholesterol after going vegan?
I’ve been vegan for over a year now and i recently got high cholesterol; before i was vegan i didn’t have high cholesterol. At first i thought it might be because my father has it, but my half sister who is also vegan has it too. (her father doesn’t have high cholesterol, and neither does our mother) Does anyone know how vegan can get high cholesterol? (i am not an excessive eater by the way) What can I do to lower it?

1 consult a good Dr. You might need to change your diet. My body auto makes bad stuff. You might have to go to meds to control it. age is sometimes a factor and weight.
First of all cholesterol can be high because of the foods we eat and also because our own bodies tend to build up cholesterol. If you have a family history it is possible that you will build cholesterol due to heredity. Also just having high cholesterol isn’t always bad. It truly depends on the type of cholesterol. If all you were given is just a total cholesterol number, it really tells you nothing. You need to know what your LDL and HDL levels are, also known as good and bad cholesterol. LDL are Low Density Lipo-proteins (bad) and HDL (good) are High Density Lipo-proteins. It is also good to know your Triglyceride levels too. You can be told you have High Cholesterol but really not be in a bad place because the high level is the good cholesterol.
If you want to think of it this way, the LDLs are like coal in a mine shaft. HDL are the carts that haul the coal through the mine. If you have too many carts (HDL) you are just moving around a bunch of carts that aren’t full. No big deal and no harm. If you have too much coal (LDL) and not enough carts (HDL) the coal spills over and clogs up the traffic flow for everyone.
A vegan diet should help bring your cholesterol levels down but along with a healthy diet, you also need to have a daily form of exercise. Check this link. It is a persons own routine they used through a vegan diet and exercise to reduce their cholesterol levels without drugs. Maybe you could use it as an aid to what you should try.
