Clofibrate (Atromid-S):

Raises the HDL cholesterol level and lowers triglyceride levels.

Gemfibrozil (Lopid):

Lowers blood fats and raises HDL cholesterol level.

Nicotinic Acid:

Works in the liver by affecting the production of blood fats. It lowers triglycerides and LDL cholesterol level, and raise HDL cholesterol level.

Resins:

Bile acid-binding drugs. Increase disposal of cholesterol.
Three kinds of medications:
1. Cholestryamine (Questran, Prevalite, Lo-Cholest)
2. Colestipol (Colestid)
3. Colesevelam(WelChol)


Statins:

Are very effective for lowering LDL cholesterol level they interrupt the formation of cholesterol from the circulating blood.
1. Atorvastatin (Lipitor)
2. Fluvastatin (Lescol)
3. Lovastatin (Mevacor)
4. Pravastatin (Pravachol)
5. Rosuvastatin Calcium (Crestor)
6. Simvastatin (Zocor)

Most used cholesterol lowering medication are Statins and Gemfibrozil.
