Is there a correlations between hypertension and high cholesterol?
It seems that people who have high blood pressure often have high cholesterol as well. Is there any correlation between the two? Do they go hand in hand?

Hypertension and hypercholesterolemia have an association but one does not necessarily cause the other. The reason that people with hypertension tend to have high cholesterol is because people with hypertension have some of the same risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, obesity.
High cholesterol could cause hypertension if the arteries leading to the kidneys are narrowed by cholesterol deposits. When this happens the kidney thinks that the blood pressure is low and it releases a hormone that increases blood pressure. Smoking causes damage to the insides of the blood vessels making it easier for cholesterol deposits to form. Obesity leads to increased overall cholesterol levels in the blood promoting deposition on the blood vessel walls.
