How can a type one diabetic child have high cholesterol?
His mother was told he needed more vegetables because of his hi cholesterol. How can an 11 year old have high cholesterol? When he is with me, his grandma, he eats fresh fruits and veggies. He said he does not get them at home. Grrr. The poor kid is not getting the right care at home what is a granny to do?

Yes, he can have high cholesterol.
Fruits and veggies will help. Be careful, some fruit products have tons of sugar.
The single best thing you can do is to teach him to manage his own diabetes. He has been old enough to do this for years now.
doglas !
Her mother would certainly prove her best caretaker. Just dont worry. Certainly a child can have a high level of cholestrol as diabetes and cholestrol run through the same gene. There is nothing wrong with the care being provided by her mom and not by her granny. This is something to do with the genes.

U want me to enumerate the causes of high cholesterol in a 11 yr.old kid ?
Can u prevent it ? U don’t know how to do it.
Not only high cholesterol diet but so many other factors r responsible.
Leave the child with his mother / father. They will take better care of all aspects of him.
Anyone, regardless of age can have high cholesterol. It can run in the family. Just because he eats lots of fruit and veggies does not mean he can’t have high cholesterol. If he eats foods high in fat, or fried foods, he could develop the disease. You need to watch the fresh fruits he is eating, they can raise the blood sugar a lot. He needs to eat them in moderation, they count as carbs in his diet. Giving more insulin so he can eat more carbs is not the way to good control. He needs to watch his whole diet, not just fruit and veggies. Diabetics often have high cholesterol.
It’s probably not due to the diabetes…this is likely a genetic predisposition.
You can send veggies home with him, talk to his mother, or have him go shopping with mom to help her pick out healthier things.
